For new license applications you must follow the pre-approval process on the VicRoads web site. Click here for more information. Mechanics who work for an existing Licenced Vehicle Tester you must supply their LVT Registration Number.

Prior to being accepted to attend this course, you will be required to complete a written test in the following areas:

  • Language, Literacy & Numeracy (LL&N)
  • Mechanical Knowledge

You must also:

  • be a qualified motor cycle mechanic at certificate level III or equivalent and /or have 7 years of trade experience.
  • hold a current Motorcycle Driver's Licence

Can I Apply?

  • Must meet the requirements for implanting a microchip in Victoria. They therefore need to hold one of the following qualifications:

    • Advanced Certificate in Veterinary Nursing
    • Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing
    • Certificate IV in Animal Control and Regulation
    • Certificate III in Local Government (Animal Management)
    • Certificate IV in Animal Welfare (Regulation)
    • Certificate III in Animal Technology
    • National Certificate in Veterinary Nursing (Level 5) - New Zealand
    • Veterinary Nurse (Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons) United Kingdom.
    • Level 3: Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons - National Vocational Qualification in Veterinary Nursing
    • Diploma in Animal Technology
    • Bachelor of Veterinary Nursing
    • Associate Degree in Veterinary Nursing

    All students must currently be working in an environment where they will have access to dogs and cats who are required to be microchipped to meet assessment criteria.

    Students must have access to a computer/laptop for video conferencing to facilitate online delivery and uploading of assessment evidence through MyLearning and/or ASMS (Student Management System).

Can I Apply?

To be eligible to attend this course, you must work in a VicRoads accredited Licenced Vehicle Tester business (as specificity authorise to test vehicle category.

Prior to being accepted to attend this course, you will be required to sit a online assessment to assess your Language, Literacy Numeracy (LLN).

You must also:

  • be a qualified motor mechanic with light vehicle experience to VicRoads requirements
  • hold a current Driver Licence

if you are currently not working in a VicRoads accredited Licenced Vehicle Tester (LVT) business or the LVT business is currently yet to have category, you will need to contact the VicRoads Vehicle Safety & Compliance Department and provide us with a letter from VicRoads which allows you to undertake the course.

Can I Apply?

Satisfactory literacy and numeracy skills. You must be at least 15 years old at the time of application. This qualification is suitable for an Australian apprenticeship pathway. You may participate in this course while searching for suitable employment but you will need to complete extra practical work at further cost if you do not secure a workplace.

There is also an interview process with the teacher for Certificate III entry.

If you are enrolling in this course as part of an apprenticeship, you must have employment in the relevant industry before commencing the course.

All applicants for this course will complete an assessment to evaluate their language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) skills. This helps to ensure that you enrol in a course that is the right level of study for you.

How Do I Apply?

Apprentice/Trainees - You will need to have an employer and then contact an Australian Apprentice Support Network office to sign a training contract.

Non-Apprentices - To apply for this course you must fill in a direct online application form. We will then be in contact to arrange an interview or provide the information session details.
