Students who do not achieve this level may be offered a place on condition they will undertake additional foundation studies.

Can I Apply?

This is a skill set covering the fundamental requirements for servicing, diagnosing and repairing faults, and retrofitting and modifying air conditioning and HVAC systems of vehicles in the automotive retail, service and repair industry. Generally, students will be qualified mechanics / Auto electricians studying Air conditioning to attain their refrigerant handling accreditation.

How Will I Be Selected?

This is a skill set covering the fundamental requirements for servicing, diagnosing and repairing faults, and retrofitting and modifying air conditioning and HVAC systems of vehicles in the automotive retail, service and repair industry. Generally, students will be qualified mechanics / Auto electricians studying Air conditioning to attain their refrigerant handling accreditation.

The skill set may only be undertaken in addition to or as part of one of the following:

  • AUR20216 Certificate II in Automotive Air Conditioning Technology or equivalent
  • AUR20416 Certificate II in Automotive Electrical Technology or equivalent
  • AUR21416 Certificate II in Automotive Cooling System Technology or equivalent
  • AUR30316 Certificate III in Automotive Electrical Technology or equivalent
  • AUR30416 Certificate III in Agricultural Mechanical Technology or equivalent
  • AUR30616 Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology or equivalent
  • AUR31116 Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology or equivalent
  • AUR31216 Certificate III in Mobile Plant Technology or equivalent
  • AUR31716 Certificate III in Forklift Technology or equivalent

Can I Apply?

There are no set prerequisites for this course. However it is recommended that you have satisfactory numeracy and literacy skills to undertake this course or are mature age and have sufficient work experience to successfully undertake the course. OR You may apply if you have satisfactorily completed VCE or an approved equivalent course and the satisfactory completion of the work requirements (eligibility to transfer); or are mature age and have sufficient work experience to successfully undertake the course. (Mature age is anyone over the age of 18 who has been out of full-time education for more than 12 months.)

Can I Apply?

To be eligible to attend this course, you must work in a VicRoads accredited Licenced Vehicle Tester business (as specificity **authorise to test vehicle category - LB).

Prior to being accepted to attend this course, you will be required to sit an online assessment to assess your Language, Literacy & Numeracy (LL&N).

You must also:

  • be a qualified motor mechanic with light or heavy vehicle experience to VicRoads requirements
  • hold a current Australian Driver's Licence

** if you are currently not working in a VicRoads accredited Licenced Vehicle Tester (LVT) business or the LVT business is currently yet to have category - LB, you will need to contact the VicRoads Vehicle Safety & Compliance Department and provide us with a letter from VicRoads which allows you to undertake the course.
