Kangan Institute Courses

You must be employed in the recreational vehicle industry as an apprentice or trainee.

There are no set prerequisites for this course. However it is recommended that you have satisfactory numeracy and literacy skills to undertake this course or are mature age and have sufficient work experience to successfully undertake the course. OR You may apply if you have satisfactorily completed VCE or an approved equivalent course and the satisfactory completion of the work requirements (eligibility to transfer); or are mature age and have sufficient work experience to successfully undertake the course. (Mature age is anyone over the age of 18 who has been out of full-time education for more than 12 months.)

If you are enrolling in this course as part of an apprenticeship, you must have employment in the relevant industry before commencing the course.

All applicants will need to be currently employed when applying to undertake this qualification.

The Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) provides a national standard of required core skills and levels of performance when seeking to enter training. Kangan Institute has the Certificate IV in Building and Construction listed as a ACSF Level 3 for Language, Literacy and Numeracy. All students will be required to complete a pre training review if they intend to enrol into the course after the information session on the day.

After you've applied online, you'll be contacted to progress through the enrolment stages which includes a Language, Literacy and Numeracy assessment.

You will be invited to an information/induction session and provided with learning materials and course details.

To be eligible for this program you must have a minimum of five years experience in the wall and ceiling lining industry and have access to a live work site as part of this delivery.

It is also recommended that you have satisfactory numeracy and literacy skills to undertake this course.

You will also need to undertake a Pre-Training Review.

All applicants for this course will complete an assessment to evaluate their language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) skills. This helps to ensure that you enrol in a course that is the right level of study for you.

You will also need to have access to a live work site and will need to have been involved in the industry for an amount of time prior to applying.

This course is available through the apprenticeship and traineeship pathway. You are eligible if you are employed or have been offered a new apprenticeship or traineeship in your chosen field. Also, it is recommended that you have satisfactory numeracy and literacy skills to undertake this course or are mature age and have sufficient work experience to successfully undertake the course. Entry requirements for the course include:

• Be 18 years or older
• Successful completion of year 12 or have a current Certificate III with current and relevant industry experience or a Certificate IV or higher
• Undertake a BKSB Assessment AND achieve the following results: Literacy (Level 4) or above, Numeracy (Level 4) or above and English Writing Skills (Level 4) or above
• Meet the NMBA English Language requirements
• A valid NDIS Worker Screening Check, Cost to student $121.10 (valid for 5 years).

English Language Requirement

• To meet the English Language Skills requirement you must provide evidence before enrolment of one of the following:
  • English is your primary language and you have attended and completed six years of primary and secondary education, in a recognised country, including at least 2 years between years 7 and 12.
  • If English is not your primary language you need to provide a valid ELS test (results must be valid for 2 years at enrolment).
• Evidence of IELTS (academic module) with a minimum overall score of 7 and a minimum score of 7 in each of the four components (listening, reading, writing and speaking), OR
• Evidence of OET with a minimum score of B in each of the four components (listening, reading, writing and speaking), OR
• Evidence of PTE Academic with a minimum overall score of 65 and a minimum score of 65 in each of the four communicative skills (listening, reading, writing and speaking), OR
• TOEFL iBT with a minimum total score of 94 and the following minimum score in each section of the test: 24 for listening, 24 for reading, 27 for writing, and 23 for speaking.

*Recognised country means one of the following: Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Republic of Ireland, South Africa, United Kingdom, United States of America.

The assessment costs is $31.50.

Students will be selected if they score Level 4 for Literacy, Level 4 for Numeracy and Level 4 English Writing Skills.

There are no pre-requisites for this course. To apply for Certificate II in Spoken and Written English (10728NAT) you need to contact the Centre for Foundation and Language Skills on 1300 675 676 to book an assessment interview which will determine current language and literacy levels and course eligibility.

You will need to attend an interview to determine current language levels and to ensure you are placed in a suitable class.
