To qualify for a 12-unit MITS, you must:

• currently hold a Bachelor degree in an ICT-related area, or
• currently hold a Bachelor degree in any discipline and a Graduate Certificate/Diploma in an ICT-related area from an accredited tertiary institution covering at least the fundamental knowledge and achieving the equivalent learning outcomes as the units in the transition semester.

Admission to most postgraduate coursework courses at the University of Tasmania require qualifications equivalent to an Australian bachelor degree. Applicants must achieve the required grade in their qualifying studies, meet any prerequisite subjects, and meet English language requirements to be eligible for an offer.

English Language Requirements

For students who do not meet the English Language Requirement through citizenship or prior studies in English in an approved country, evidence of an approved English language test completed within the last 2 years must be provided. See the English Language Requirements page for more information.

English Language Requirements are: IELTS (Academic) 6.5 (no individual band less than 6.0)

16-unit masters (2 years)

Students who do not hold a Bachelor or Graduate Certificate/Diploma in an ICT-related area from an accredited tertiary institution will be required to complete a 2-year, 16-unit masters.

12-unit masters (1.5 to 2 years)

To qualify for a 12-unit MITS, you must:

• currently hold a Bachelor degree in an ICT-related area, or
• currently hold a Bachelor degree in any discipline and a Graduate Certificate/Diploma in an ICT-related area from an accredited tertiary institution covering at least the fundamental knowledge and achieving the equivalent learning outcomes as the units in the transition semester.

Admission to the Bachelor of Music with Honours requires:

• Successful completion of a relevant bachelor's degree with a major in music with a Distinction (70%) average at the University of Tasmania or another approved tertiary institution, or equivalent industry experience
• submission of a project proposal which can be supported by appropriate academic supervision, and
• an audition and interview

Application requirements

Applicants are required to attend an audition and interview. Overseas or interstate applicants may submit a certified DVD, CD or private internet link of a recorded recent performance or portfolio materials.

Instrumental and vocal applicants should prepare a program of approximately 15 minutes duration, comprising three works of contrasting style. Composition, songwriter, commercial music creation and music technology applicants should present a portfolio of at least three works, including quality recordings of the best performances or realisations of their work.

When do auditions occur?

For Semester 1 (February) entry:
First round occurs between mid-November through mid-December.
Second round occurs between late-January through mid-February.

24V3 is a Joint Award Program for students who have completed years 1 and 2 in the Bachelor of Engineering (Naval Architecture) Honours at Edith Cowan University, Western Australia.

Domestic applicants who recently completed secondary education

An ATAR of 65 or above. This is the minimum ATAR needed for an application to be considered. Applicants are ranked by ATAR and offers made based on the number of places available. In 2022, the lowest ATAR to receive an offer into this course was 90.20. The lowest ATAR to receive an offer may change from year to year based on the number of applications we receive.

Applicants who have recently completed senior secondary studies but have not received an ATAR may still be eligible for admission. We will consider your subject results on a case-by-case basis when we assess your application.

Domestic applicants with higher education study

To be eligible for an offer, applicants must have:

Partially completed an undergraduate course at Diploma level or higher (or equivalent). Applicants must have completed at least two/four units of study (equivalent to 25 UTAS credit points) including Level 100 units successfully completed in the Diploma of University Studies at UTAS. If an applicant has failed any units the application may be subject to further review before an offer is made.

OR

Completed the UTAS University Preparation Program (or an equivalent qualification offered by an Australian University).

Domestic applicants with VET / TAFE study

To be eligible for an offer, applicants must have completed a Certificate IV (or equivalent) in any discipline.

Domestic applicants with work and life experience

Applicants without senior secondary, tertiary or VET / TAFE study can complete a personal competency statement.

All other domestic applicants

• meet the University's General Entry Requirements based on your prior studies and experience; and
• Have prior study or experience equivalent to a satisfactory achievement in General Mathematics (MTG315115) and one of Chemistry (CHM415115) or Physics (PHY415115) or Physical Sciences (PSC315118) at Tasmanian Senior Secondary level. If you have not met this prerequisite, you will need to complete a UTAS Foundation Unit before you start your course.

To be an eligible for an offer, you must have studies or experience equivalent to a satisfactory achievement in the following Tasmanian Senior Secondary subjects:

• General Mathematics (MTG315115) or equivalent, and
• Physical Sciences (PSC315109) or equivalent (equivalency includes CHM415115 Chemistry or PHY415115 Physics)

If you have not met a required pre-requisite, you will need to complete a University of Tasmania Foundation Studies Program before you start your course.

Students who have not yet arranged their employment for the sea-time component of the course will usually commence in the Advanced Diploma of Applied Science (Marine Engineering) and transfer to the Bachelor at a later date with full credit.

Domestic applicants who recently completed secondary education

Applicants are ranked by ATAR and offers made based on the number of places available. This course has a Guaranteed ATAR of 65.

In 2022, the lowest ATAR to receive an offer into this course was 65.80. The lowest ATAR to receive an offer may change from year to year based on the number of applications we receive.

Applicants who have recently completed senior secondary studies but have not received an ATAR may still be eligible for admission. We will consider your subject results on a case-by-case basis when we assess your application.

Domestic applicants with higher education study

To be eligible for an offer, applicants must have:

Partially completed an undergraduate course at Diploma level or higher (or equivalent). Applicants must have completed at least two/four units of study (equivalent to 25 UTAS credit points) including Level 100 units successfully completed in the Diploma of University Studies at UTAS. If an applicant has failed any units the application may be subject to further review before an offer is made.

OR

Completed the UTAS University Preparation Program (or an equivalent qualification offered by an Australian University).

Domestic applicants with VET / TAFE study

To be eligible for an offer, applicants must have completed a Certificate IV (or equivalent) in any discipline.

Domestic applicants with work and life experience

Applicants without senior secondary, tertiary or VET / TAFE study can complete a personal competency statement.

Applicants may be eligible for an offer if they have relevant work and / or life experiences which demonstrate a capacity to succeed in this course.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATION

If your ability to access or participate in education has been affected by circumstances beyond your control, you can apply for special consideration as part of your application. We will consider a range of factors for special consideration, including economic hardship, a serious medical condition or disability.

We can only approve applications for special consideration where we are confident that you have the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in your studies. If your application is not approved, the UTAS admissions team will work with you to find the best alternative pathway to your chosen course. Special consideration is not available for international applicants.

All international students will need to meet the minimum English Language Requirements, University General Entry Requirements and any course specific requirements such as pre-requisite subjects, if applicable.

This degree requires an IELTS (Academic) of 6.0, with no individual band less than 5.5, or a PTE Academic score of 50, with no score lower than 42 or equivalent.

For students who do not meet the English Language Requirement through citizenship or prior studies in English in an approved country, evidence of an approved English language test completed within the last 2 years must be provided. See the English Language Requirements page for more information.

Admission to undergraduate courses at the University of Tasmania requires the completion of qualifications equivalent to a 12th year of education in Australia.
