Entry Requirements

To be considered for the Exchange Program you need to:

  • have a letter of nomination from your home institution;
  • have completed the equivalent of an Australian Bachelor degree and submit substantiating evidence (testamur);
  • provide evidence of written support with your supervisor at your home university and a supervisor at the University of Sydney who has agreed to supervise your research;
  • provide a one page research proposal;
  • have achieved a cumulative grade (across all results in your degree) of either 'Credit' or 'Good' average, or a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 point scale, or an average grade of 'C' or better on the European ECTS grading scale (or equivalent)

To be eligible for admission, you must have completed the equivalent of a Bachelor's degree in music with a major in composition.

In exceptional circumstances the Dean or Associate Dean may admit an applicant who does not meet this requirement provided that the applicant has exceptional qualifications and presents evidence of having the aptitude required for undertaking the course.

Sydney Conservatorium of Music
In response to COVID-19, the University of Sydney has reviewed the availability of courses to be delivered remotely. This course will be available for students to study remotely during 2022 if they are unable to undertake face-to-face study.
Entry Requirements

To gain entry a candidate must:

  • Have qualified for the award of the pass degree of Bachelor of Music Studies from the University of Sydney or comparable three-year degree from another tertiary institution
     
  • Candidates must have achieved a distinction average in the overall degree, including all written subjects, and achieved a distinction average in their principal study or area of specialisation in years two or three
     
  • In addition to the above requirements, prospective candidates will need to submit a minimum 500-word proposal outlining the aims of their research, including the relevance of the research question, references to supporting literature and possible ethical considerations
     
  • Successful completion of an audition and/or interview.

All candidates are required to have achieved a grade point average of 70% in their final year of university study prior to admission into the Master of Education (Research) degree. Candidates need to submit a research proposal (500-1000 words) addressing criteria specified by the faculty, and have one of the following qualifications:

  • a Bachelor degree in an appropriate area of study and a Bachelor of Teaching/Master of Teaching degree or equivalent, or
  • a Bachelor degree plus a one-year Diploma of Education in an appropriate area of study, or
  • a four year Bachelor of Education degree or Bachelors degree deemed by the faculty to be equivalent and of a standard acceptable to the faculty.

The Master of Fine Arts by research is designed to provide you with the opportunity to develop your art practice through advanced research in one or more discipline area.
Entry Requirements

To be eligible for admission to the Master of Fine Arts, you must present a portfolio of work that demonstrates you have the level of art practice proficiency expected of an advanced research applicant.

In addition, you must have completed the equivalent of one of the following in visual arts or other subject area related to your proposed research area:

  • bachelor's degree with honours; or
  • bachelor's degree and graduate diploma; or
  • master's degree by coursework with an independent research component such as a thesis, dissertation or research project.

These criteria constitute the minimum requirements for eligibility and do not guarantee admission. That remains at the discretion of the relevant supervisors and departments, and access to supervision remains highly competitive. The University must certify that there are sufficient supervisory and other resources and facilities available to enable your candidature to be completed successfully.

Entry Requirements

There are three main conditions of admission, namely:

(i) Academic qualifications

(ii) Research and publication experience and

(iii) Suitability of the proposed course of study and research. If you are not academically qualified to undertake a research degree, you may consider pursuing your research interests through coursework study before progressing to a research degree.

The coursework program provides you with an opportunity to enhance your expertise in the proposed area of research by allowing you to complete research projects in related units of study. Applicants require a Master's degree and/or Bachelor's degree with first or second class honours.
