Please note: This course is only available to returning and current students who commenced a Bachelor of Arts (Languages) degree in 2017 or prior.

To qualify for admission to honours students need to have completed a major in the intended subject area with an average of 70% or above. Some departments and programs have additional criteria, including advanced senior units of study designed to prepare students for the challenges of fourth year study.

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for admission to the Doctor of Arts you must have a minimum of five years' recent, full-time employment or professional experience in a relevant field and completed the equivalent of one of the following in a subject area related to your proposed research area:

  • bachelor's degree with first class or second class honours or, a bachelor's degree from the University of Sydney with a substantial portfolio of published / professional work (such as books, films, TV programs, creative work and / or government reports) equivalent to or greater than an undergraduate honours thesis; or
  • a master's degree.

These constitute the minimum requirements for eligibility and do not guarantee admission. This remains at the discretion of the relevant supervisors and departments. The University must certify that there are sufficient supervisory and other resources and facilities available to enable your candidature to be completed successfully.

To qualify to enrol in the Bachelor of Architecture and Environments (Honours) candidates should have qualified for the award of the pass degree, or a similar degree from another university that is acceptable to the University, and be a graduate of not more than four years standing. Candidates should have a weighted average mark of at least 70 for the pass degree. Before applying candidates should have an approved thesis topic and supervisor. The supervisor must be from our academic staff.
