University of Sydney (USYD) Courses

Admission to the course requires:

• a medical degree from the University of Sydney or equivalent qualification.

Applicants from countries without established vocational (specialist) ophthalmology training programs and working in an ophthalmology unit are eligible for admission to the Community Ophthalmology stream.

Applicants who are overseas-trained specialists from countries with established vocational ophthalmology training programs and either of the following are eligible for admission to the Post Vocational Ophthalmology stream :

1. have satisfactorily completed the requirements to practice as ophthalmologists in their country of residency
2. are eligible to undertake further fellowship training in their country of residence.

Admission to this course requires:

• the successful completion of an embedded degree program (Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma) with a minimum credit average; or
• a bachelor degree in a health or science-related discipline with honours; or
• a bachelor degree plus a postgraduate degree in a health or science-related discipline.
• minimum 12 months of relevant work experience.

Admission to the course requires:

• a medical degree from the University of Sydney or equivalent qualification.

Admission to candidature for the Master of Social Work (Qualifying) requires:

• a relevant Australian bachelor's degree (Graduate Diploma or Graduate Certificate) or equivalent qualification; and
• evidence of the ability to meet the required prerequisite knowledge in relation to human development and of society; and
• evidence of relevant employment history in human and community services industry (generally evidence of at least 2 years is required).

In exceptional circumstances, the Dean may admit applicants without a bachelor's degree who, in the opinion of the faculty, have qualifications and evidence of experience and achievement sufficient to successfully undertake the award. This may include evidence through publications or authorship of official documents.

Admission to this course requires:

• completion of the requirements for the Master of Medicine (Sleep Medicine); and
• an average mark of at least 75% in 24 credit points of compulsory and/or stream units of study; and
• any other requirements as stated by the Faculty at the time of application.

To be eligible for admission, an applicant is required to have:

• an Australian Bachelor of Engineering degree in the relevant discipline with a credit average (65 percent) or equivalent qualification, or
• an Australian Bachelor of Engineering degree in the relevant discipline or equivalent, and five years relevant professional work experience, or
• the relevant University of Sydney Graduate Diploma in Engineering or Graduate Certificate in Engineering with a credit average (65 percent).

A successful applicant for admission to the Graduate Diploma in Public Health will hold a degree from the University of Sydney or equivalent qualification.

Admission to candidature requires:

• a Bachelor of Education from the University of Sydney or equivalent qualification and either the completion of postgraduate studies, or professional experience equivalent to one year full-time in a field considered by the Faculty to be appropriate to the program of study; or
• a bachelor's degree and either the Graduate Diploma in Education or Bachelor of Teaching or Master of Teaching from the University of Sydney or equivalent qualification; or
• a bachelor's degree from the University of Sydney or equivalent qualification and either the completion of postgraduate studies in Education, or professional experience equivalent to two years full-time in a field considered by the Faculty to be appropriate to the program of study.

Subject to meeting progression requirements in the graduate certificate, you may apply to transfer to the Graduate Diploma in Educational Studies or the Master of Education.

Admission to the Master of Interaction Design and Electronic Arts requires:

• a bachelor's degree from the University of Sydney or an equivalent qualification with a credit average mark across all units; or
• completion of the requirements of the embedded graduate diploma; or
• completion of the requirements of the embedded graduate certificate with a weighted average mark of at least 70.

A successful applicant for admission to this course will hold:

• a Bachelor of Dentistry, Doctor of Dental Medicine or Bachelor of Dental Surgery from the University of Sydney or equivalent institution;
• Or an equivalent qualification that is recognised by the Australian Dental Board (Limited Registration for postgraduate training/supervised practice) and with a curriculum acceptable to the school.

In addition to these criteria, admission to this course requires:

• at least two years general dental practice; completion of the primary Fellowship Examination of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons or its equivalent is desirable
• all applicants must be registered with the Australian Dental Board for practice (limited registration for international candidates) prior to admission to the program.

Applicants must demonstrate commitment to the particular specialty that they are applying for, such as through participation in short courses or continuing education programs aligned to that particular specialty.

All applications will be ranked according to academic merit after the application closing date. Successfully ranked applicants will be invited to participate in an interview with the Sydney Dental School. Some specialist programs also require applicants to sit an examination as a component of the admission process.
