Domestic Applicants who have recently completed secondary education

Applicants are ranked by ATAR and offers made based on the number of places available. In 2022, the lowest ATAR to receive an offer into this course was 74.4. The lowest ATAR to receive an offer may change from year to year based on the number of applications we receive

Applicants who have recently completed senior secondary studies but have not received an ATAR may still be eligible for admission. We will consider your individual subject results on a case-by-case basis when we assess your application.

Domestic applicants with higher education study

To be eligible for an offer, applicants must have:

  • Partially completed an undergraduate course at Diploma level or higher (or equivalent). Applicants must have completed at least two units of study (equivalent to 25 UTAS credit points). If an applicant has failed any units the application may be subject to further review before an offer is made; or
  • Completed the UTAS University Preparation Program (or an equivalent qualification offered by an Australian University).
Domestic applicants with VET / TAFE study

To be eligible for an offer, applicants must have completed a Certificate IV (or equivalent) in any discipline.

Domestic applicants with work and life experience

Applicants without senior secondary, tertiary or VET / TAFE study can complete a personal competency statement.

Applicants may be eligible for an offer if they have relevant work and / or life experiences which demonstrate a capacity to succeed in this course.

Special consideration

If your ability to access or participate in education has been affected by circumstances beyond your control, you can apply for special consideration as part of your application. We will consider a range of factors, including economic hardship, serious medical condition or disability.

We can only approve applications for special consideration where we are confident that you have the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in your studies. If your application is not approved, the UTAS admissions team will work with you to find the best alternative pathway to your chosen course. Special consideration is not available for international applicants.

International applicants

All applicants are required to provide a non-academic personal statement which is used to assist in the selection of students into all Initial Teacher Education (ITE) courses at the University of Tasmania.

This statement is submitted through the Non-Academic Capability Assessment Tool (NACAT) after you have completed your application and is used in conjunction with your ATAR score (or equivalent alternative entry.) All applicants must satisfactorily complete the NACAT before they will be provided with an offer into the course.

Instructions on submitting your statement and completing the NACAT are provided during the application process.

Prior to undertaking their final Professional Experience placement, Master of Teaching students are required to complete the Literacy and Numeracy

Test for Initial Teaching Education (LANTITE)

To progress into the Master of Teaching component of the course you must attain a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 5 or above (Credit average) in the first 100 credit points of undergraduate study.

If you do not meet this GPA requirement you will be transferred into the Bachelor of Arts with full credit. On completion of the Bachelor of Arts you may apply to return and complete the Master of Teaching.

Graduate Certificate

The Graduate Certificate in Therapeutic Medication Management is designed for experienced Registered Nurses looking to develop knowledge and enhanced practical skills in therapeutic medication management.
Entry Requirements

Admission to the Graduate Certificate in Therapeutic Medication Management requires that:

  • Applicants must have practiced as a Registered Nurse or Registered Midwife for a minimum of two years prior to the start of the course.
  • Applicants must provide evidence of Ahpra registration as a Division 1 Registered Nurse or Division 1 Registered Midwife with no restrictions or conditions.

Applicants will be required to provide evidence of confirmation of employment.

This course does not use ATAR as part of the admission process. To be eligible for an offer, applicants must have completed the Tasmanian Certificate of Education (TCE) or an equivalent qualification.

Applicants with previous higher education study

To be eligible for an offer, applicants must have completed at least one undergraduate unit of study (equivalent to 12.5 UTAS credit points) at any Australian higher education provider. If an applicant has failed any units, the application may be subject to further review before an offer is made.

Applicants with previous VET / TAFE study

To be eligible for an offer, applicants must have completed Certificate III or above.

Applications on the basis of work or life experience: This course accepts applications based on work or life experience. Graduate Certificate

The Graduate Certificate in Economic Geology has been designed for those working as geoscientists, providing a detailed overview in the fundamentals of Economic Geology including the latest developments in mineral exploration, mining, and environmental management.
Entry Requirements

Admission to Graduate Certificate courses at the University of Tasmania normally requires the prior completion of an AQF7 (or equivalent) undergraduate degree. Specific requirements for admission to the Graduate Certificate in Economic Geology are as follows:

(i) a Bachelor of Science/Applied Science majoring in geoscience, or

(ii) a minimum of two years' employment as a geoscientist in the minerals industry or government.

To demonstrate eligibility for admission to the Graduate Certificate in Economic Geology, applicants must provide a copy of their undergraduate academic transcript/s. Where seeking entry partly or solely based on an applicant's previous professional experience, a curriculum vitae and the names and contact details for two professional referees should be provided.

Entry Requirements

For entry into the Graduate Diploma of Financial Planning, students must meet the following criteria:

  • Completed an undergraduate degree, or equivalent, from an approved tertiary institution; or
  • Completed a Graduate Certificate, or equivalent, from an approved tertiary institution; or
  • Have qualifications, relevant work experience or other special circumstances, as approved by the Executive Dean or delegated authority.

For entry into the Graduate Diploma of Financial Planning, students must meet the following criteria:

  • Completed an undergraduate degree, or equivalent, from an approved tertiary institution; or
  • Completed a Graduate Certificate, or equivalent, from an approved tertiary institution; or
  • Have qualifications, relevant work experience or other special circumstances, as approved by the Executive Dean or delegated authority.

In addition to the requirements for Domestic applicants, International applicants must provide one of the following:

  • Successful completion of English for Academic Purposes 2 at the University of Tasmania with a minimum overall score of 65% (no individual score less than 60%);
  • An IELTS score of 6.5 (no individual band less than 6.0);
  • A TOEFL (iBT) overall score of 88 (no individual skill below: Reading 16; Listening 16; Speaking 18; Writing 22);
  • A PTE Academic 58 with no score lower than 50

These tests must not be more than 24 months old.
