About this course

The Bachelor of Nursing is offered On Campus and Online and either Full-time or Part-time. Both On Campus and Online students participate in structured and timetabled learning activities.

Nursing plays a key role in health services across the world, and registered nurses work in a wide variety of settings. The Bachelor of Nursing equips graduates with the key knowledge and skills necessary for the practice of registered nursing.

Students who successfully complete 6 trimesters of full-time study (or part-time equivalent) graduate with a Bachelor of Nursing and are eligible to apply to become a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA). The course gives graduates an appreciation of the value of life-long learning and a firm foundation for further study at a postgraduate level. Units are offered in all three trimesters allowing students to complete the course in two calendar years if they wish.

Students who have an un-restricted Enrolled Nurse registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) can apply under Admission Rule (b) and can complete in four trimesters of full-time study (or part-time equivalent).

The Bachelor of Nursing also offers two admission pathways for International Students under Admission Rule (c) and Rule (d).

All students are required to undertake professional experience placements. Students must meet additional requirements prior to attending this. It is strongly recommended students commence the mandatory requirements for compliance prior to commencing the course.

Domestic students may study on campus at Armidale or online, commencing Trimester 1 only. Online study necessitates attendance at on campus Intensive schools. Participation in online supervised assessments and structured and timetabled learning activities is required of students enrolled in both on campus and online study.

Note: International Students admitted under Rule (c) will have an On Campus intake in Trimester 2 and Trimester 3 at Armidale or UNE Sydney (Parramatta). Quotas will apply at each campus and the campus you may be offered may not be your first choice. International Students admitted under Rule (d) will be able to study On Campus at Armidale only, commencing in Trimester 3.

Some units offered Online may have Mandatory Intensive Schools. These Intensive Schools will only be held in Armidale.

Some teaching activities may be scheduled on weekends.

Alternative Admission Pathway

Early and alternative entry pathways are offered to students who do not meet entry criteria based on previous, formal study.

Prospective domestic nursing students who do not meet admission criteria may be able to commence in the Diploma of Community Welfare and Wellbeing or a UNE Enabling Program which consists of two units that provide a foundation for university study and two units that are in first year of the Bachelor of Nursing (HLTH101 Information and Evidence in Health and Social Care and HLTH103 Communication for Healthcare Professionals).

Please Note: for Domestic applicants applying under Rules (a), (b) and (e), applications closed Friday 10 January 2020 as quotas for 2020 have been met.
