This short course is an introduction to community interpreting and covers the fundamental skills and knowledge required to work as an interpreter in Australia. Topics covered include interpreting skills and techniques, the T&I industry, NAATI certification and testing, memory skills, ethics and the role of the interpreter, common interpreting settings, and dialogue interpreting practice. The short course will combine presentations from experienced T&I professionals and practical interpreting exercises.
This short course does not include NAATI certification. For those interested in gaining NAATI certification, further training and testing are required. The short course will provide information about how to gain this. Participants who successfully complete Entry-Level Community Interpreting may be invited to attend a further Entry-Level Community Interpreting Level 2 workshop later in the year, which will extend the knowledge and skills established in this course.
