The Certificate III in Food Processing will introduce you to the practical aspects of brewing with underpinning knowledge to produce a great brew! You will develop core food processing skills such as product safety, quality and traceability together with specific brewing skills such as wort production, fermentation, beer maturation, packaging and product testing.

In this course you will learn how to:

  • Produce good quality wort
  • Manage, propagate & monitor yeast in the brewery
  • Test pH, SG, yeast count and viability
  • Critically assess beer and identify faults
  • Clean tanks and pipework effectively and develop cleaning & sanitation plans

This course is suitable for existing brewery workers, those looking to enter into the brewing industry and those wanting to set up their own brewery. The course also suits brewery owners seeking to employ entry level staff, possibly as trainees. This level is suitable for new entrants as well as those with industry experience.

The delivery of this course is blended - a mix of online learning, 2 days on-campus practical work, and work placement. There is a requirement to undertake 15-20 days of work placement during this course. Online delivery is two evenings per week - Tuesday and Wednesday 5.30-7.30pm.

There are no pre-requisites for this course. However you will be required to:

  • Attend an individual interview with teaching staff
  • Complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) assessment.
