If you have a personal or professional interest in te reo Maori and would like to contribute positively to the development the Maori language this is the start you need.
You'll develop the language skills to communicate, with little support, in familiar everyday contexts and in some Maori environments. You'll learn and practice aspects of hui whakatau (gatherings), mihimihi (acknowledgments and introductions), and discuss traditional narratives.

These skills and opportunities are embedded in the teaching approach where engagement with local marae and culturally immersive experiences are at the forefront. Course delivery combines in-classroom and local marae-based experiences. The inclusion of marae provides an authentic, meaningful engagement with local Maori communities, ensuring that mana whenua are known people and retain the role of representing themselves.
The development of basic understanding and awareness of te reo Maori can be utilised to support and complement existing skills and knowledge in your current or future area of employment.
Extending your te reo skills can lead to employment opportunities in both the public and private sectors. These opportunities could include support roles in broadcasting, tourism, health sector, education, foreign embassies in New Zealand, trainees in museums, trainee/apprentice roles in the arts - singers, composers, writers, artists, actors.
